Here’s what those who have coached with Joanne have to say:
It was indeed an honor to work with Joanne. She is an excellent coach. She took me on an incredible journey of self exploration. With her help and guidance, I was able to discover many of my hidden strengths that were instrumental in helping me grow and become a better leader. Joanne coached me through many difficult times in my life both personally and professionally. There were times I would go into a session totally confused and unsure of how to handle the road blocks and challenges that I faced in my life, but her sessions always brought clarity to me. Through her coaching sessions I was able to remove obstacles and self imposed limitations that hindered my development and growth.
Her unique skills of knowing how to probe and how to challenge definitely kept me focused on my goals. I truly enjoyed all of our sessions together. Whenever I was down she encouraged me to move on; when I was frustrated she helped me work through my frustrations; when I was unhappy she helped me remember my passions and the things that made me laugh and smile; when I felt lost and hopeless she made me realize that I had choices. Having Joanne as my coach definitely helped me grow in my leadership role, her sessions empowered me to push past my comfort zone and take charge of my life.

I am a manager at a Banner Health Medical Center. I was a fortunate candidate who was selected to participate in the Advanced Leadership Program. The Advanced Leadership Program is designed to develop future leaders for advanced positions in Banner Health. Joanne Schlosser was assigned as my coach for the twelve month period. During my coaching sessions, I learned and developed strategies which helped to improve my abilities as a professional. Some of these same strategies carried over into my personal life both as a father and as a husband. Joanne’s coaching helped me to take on tasks I was unsure I could achieve. The first time Joanne gave me an assignment I felt uncertain about my abilities. However, over the course of the program I accomplish all of my tasks and to my surprise, it didn’t take much of an effort to do. I can say without the help of Joanne’s coaching I would not have the confidence I have now.
What I like most about being coached by Joanne is she did not act as an advisor, counselor or a mentor. She asked me about situations I deemed as a challenge and then let me use my abilities to create how I would approach the challenges. Furthermore, what’s so great about being coached is the answers weren’t given to me. I had to soul search to come up with the solutions. Thanks to Joanne’s coaching I am confident and capable of taking on difficult challenges.
At the end of the program I was asked to share with the group my thoughts about being coached. I gave an analogy; it went like this…I walk around giving the impression of a lion but what I really saw in the mirror was a lamb. Over the period of my coaching, my confidence grew. I gradually saw in the mirror a lion evolving. At the end of my coaching the lion was roaring.
Finally, after completing my coaching with Joanne, I can say without a doubt this was one of the best things Banner Health has done for me.
Details of the Recommendation: “What I like most about being coached by Joanne is that she was very patient, friendly, humorous, trustworthy and professional.”

I was fortunate enough to be able to work with Joanne as my ‘leader coach’. I had just transitioned into a Nursing Director position after several years in a Senior Manager role. As comes with any new job with increased responsibility; I had concerns regarding my new position. How would I be able to manage hundreds of employees and yet not be a micromanager? How would I transition from being a peer with my team to now being their leader? How do you influence and get results through others when you no longer have day to day interaction with many of the staff? The time spent with Joanne over the next several months was invaluable in assisting me to transition into my new role.
Joanne’s coaching prompted self evaluation; including discussion regarding strengths and identifying new or additional skills needed for my new position. Her ability to ask probing questions and challenge my current line of thinking provided dialogue regarding new options to issues and concerns. Her coaching sessions provided insight into what I as a leader could not yet see for myself and I became more comfortable thinking ‘out of the box’.
Joanne provided an environment of support and open discussion without judging or offering answers. These discussions prompted more rigorous thinking when tackling a problem as well as instilling confidence with my decisions and actions. Joanne shared reading materials, resources and other tools to better assist in managing staff and situations.
I appreciate the opportunity to work with Joanne and value the knowledge and insight I gained for my role as a leader.
